A Second Breath

In the Shevelevy family (both of whom are physicists) there is joyful news: Igor (the husband) has been given a prestigious and well-paid job in a new nano-laboratory. However, celebration turns to tragedy when Igor gets drunk at some banquet and then insists on driving home, on the way knocking down a traffic policeman. For the sake of his career, as well as for their children’s future, Igor’s wife Maria takes the blame. A year later she is released from prison early – a broken woman. Now she cannot find work in her profession, and to make things worse she discovers that her husband has long been unfaithful. Maria is compelled to work as a cleaning lady in a hospital – and begins a new life…
